Job Description

1. Purpose of the Role
  • To render driving services to the site as needed.
2. Key Responsibilities
2.1. Collection and Delivery
  • Collect goods, documents and people from set locations and make deliveries or take individuals to the designated locations by the correct time.
  • Ensure the documentation associated with collections and deliveries has been correctly completed and submitted.
Perform a thorough check of the vehicle prior to departure:
  • Check fuel and oil levels in the vehicle before loading goods.
  • Inspect the vehicle to assure the working conditions of brakes, lights, wipers, windshield, fire extinguisher, flares and other safety equipment.
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean at all times.
  • Complete the trip log for each trip.
  • Load and unload goods and ensure the associated records are correct.
  • Facilitate the overall maintenance and regular servicing of the vehicle.
  • Record all relevant information when re-fuelling the vehicle.
  • Ensure that cargo is well secured.
  • Maintain a log of activities, condition of the vehicle and any accidents.
  • Report improper loading of cargo and any incident/accident while in transit.
2.2. Safety, Health, Environment and Risk Compliance
  • Inspect the freight and vehicle for compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Obey all traffic laws and transportation procedures.
  • Inspect and maintain vehicle standards and report any mechanical problems or repairs needed.
  • Report any accidents to the Camp Manager immediately or at least within 24 hours.
  • Ensure compliance with the Company Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Code as it pertains to driving.
2.3. Effective Teamwork and Self-Management
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and activities and demonstrate effective self-management in terms of planning and prioritising, and self-development.
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of work are consistently and accurately maintained.
  • Inform relevant parties in the event of tasks or deadlines not met, the potential risks thereof and provide appropriate resolution.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
  •  Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
  • Training in advanced driving skills
  • 3 years’ experience as a driver
  • Applicable driver’s licence (Code 10 and PDP)
